Overview of the department

The Department of Biotechnology at KRMMC was established in the academic year 1999-2000. The PG Programme M.Sc Biotechnology (II Yrs) was started in the academic year 2002 . This program is affiliated to the University of Madras. The Department has been equipped with highly innovative expertise and state-of-the-art laboratories suited well to pursue both research and education.

Around 9 University ranks have been produced by students since its inception. Certificate courses on Mushroom farming and Nanotechnology is being provided for the students. Students are made to participate actively in workshops, hands on training programs, attend symposiums and conferences, present and publish papers in reputed journals. Guidance and support is provided for all sorts of life-science related competitive exams.

A Pass in B.Sc. degree program with Biology / Botany / Zoology / Biotechnology / Microbiology / Genetics / Chemistry / Biochemistry / Physics / Agriculture as Main subject or B.E. / B. Tech Biotech / BVSE / MBBS / BDS

Scope of the program

Biotechnology postgraduates of this department are expected to branch out into different paths of seeking advanced research-based knowledge, professional employment, or entrepreneurship that they find fulfilling. They will be able to demonstrate knowledge as well as skills in diverse fields of Biotechnology.

Association Activities:

The Department association “Genetricks” is actively involved in organising several events for the students in order to stimulate their ingenious thinking that would aid in unleashing their latent skill sets. Distinguished researchers and scientists from various thrust areas from life science disciplines from several reputed institutions both at national and international levels are invited to deliver lectures, conduct interactive sessions with students, encourage them to carry out research, participate in symposiums and conferences and present papers and posters.

The Department Magazine “Biovistas” is released annually and is collected, sorted and compiled by students with the help of the department staff.

The Department also releases a Newsletter “BIOSCOPE” annually on the Current science of most of the emerging diseases which threaten an outbreak nationwide.
