M.Sc. Biotechnology

Computer Science

Biotechnology unveils several facts that are to be foreseen by mankind in near future and Biotechnologists hold promise in unraveling such magic to happen. The Department of Biotechnology was established in 1999 and M.Sc Biotechnology was started in 2002. The Department has been equipped with highly innovative expertise and state-of-the-art laboratories suited well to pursue both research and education.

The Department attracts students from all over the country and abroad. MSc Biotechnology programme helps the students to obtain a creative attitude to the development and manufacture of biotechnology products. The intention is that skills and knowledge can be more readily transferred to professional activities. Faculty members from other related departments and scientists from various National Institutes contribute to the teaching. This support has been an asset to maintain the quality of the M.Sc teaching programme.

The Department provides students with enhanced practical and professional skills and thus prepares them effectively for professional employment or doctoral studies in the field of biotechnology. Many of our students studied, are well placed in various premier Institutions as scientists, teachers & entrepreneurs in various parts of the country and abroad.

The major equipment and facilities in the department include:

  • PCR – Master Cycler
  • UV Spectrophotometer
  • Inverted Microscope
  • Microfuge & Refrigerated Centrifuge
  • Microplate reader
  • UV Transilluminator
  • BOD incubator

Association Activities

The Department association “Genetricks” is involved in organising several events to the students in order to stimulate their ingenious thinking that would aid to unleash their latent skills.

The Department’s Annual Magazine “Biovistas” is released every year, which is collected, sorted and compiled by students. The Department also releases an annual Newsletter “BIOSCOPE” on current sciences of most of the emerging diseases which threaten as an outbreak nationwide.

Certificate courses on Mushroom farming and Nanotechnology is being provided for the students. Students are made to participate in workshops, hands on training programs, symposiums and conferences, present and publish papers in reputed journals.
